RSS ( Rich Site Summary )
RSS is an open protocol for publishing information on Web. A RSS
(Rich Site Summary) feed is a XML file, which describes the content of a
site, being updated together with it.
RSS is also considered to be the abbreviation from RDF (Resource
Description Framework) Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. RSS is
important because it allows informing about the updating of online
resources without using emails or Newsletter, thus reducing the
possibility of receiving spam and viruses. Generally, a RSS feed
includes a logo, the site link, a reading domain and news items; each
item consists of the URL of the article, a title and a
description.
Applications called aggregators read the RSS and inform their
users about the site modifications, all information being transmitted
this way to a large audience- a process called syndication. The
information from the RSS files is being stored in databases, which can
be accessed using multiple search criteria.
Podcast (Enclosure)
Podcasting is an automatic mechanism whereby multimedia computer
files are transferred from a server to a client, which pulls down XML
files containing the Internet addresses of the media files. In general,
these files contain audio or video, but also could be images, text, PDF,
or any file type.
